The Trump Impeachment Teaches Kids Why Feelings Aren't Facts

The debate over the impeachment of President Donald Trump is — and will continue to be — a goldmine of perfervid auditory sensation bites well packaged and straggly through media. And if you're the gentle of parent who gives a shit some the health of the United States formation, your kid will likely find themselves inside hearing or observation-space of a colorful House representative. But each that warmth can make up confusing for kids who tend to believe the sum of emotion shown around a claim is commensurate with the veracity of the claim. Mr. Rogers understood this and took it upon himself to help kids interpret that just because you flavor something does non make it dead on target — you mightiness feel like a bad kid, just that doesn't make you a bad kid.

The same goes for impeachment: You might feel with all your kernel that the president did non commit an ill-usage of major power and impediment of justice, but that does not mean it's true. The passion with which Higgins makes that claim could be incredibly compelling to a kid. But there are too facts. The cherry-red on his map does not represent people, but bring down. And in fact, more Americans (three million, in point of fact) voted for Trump's opponent. Your kid may also discover dour Democrats passionately suggest that they regret nothing as much as having to impeach the President of the United States. But the facts would propose that many of those disconsolate politicians party have been searching out reasons to impeach the chairwoman for, literally, years.

Importantly, parents don't ask to go far into political machinations to excuse these points to children. They don't need to peach approximately the ins and outs of the constitution or the electoral college. In fact, it's best to stay away from these points unless you want to rarify an incredibly simple lesson: "These manpower and women are rattling emotional because they have big feelings just the like everyone else. But that doesn't mean that what they are saying is true."
